The Senator representing Oyo South and leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sharafadeen Alli, on Wednesday, obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections, becoming the first aspirant to do so.

Alli was accompanied by senatorial hopefuls from the state, including Senator Yusuf Akintunde, who is seeking to return to the Senate to represent Oyo Central, and Honourable Remi Oseni, who is contesting for the Oyo South senatorial ticket.

Also present were House of Representatives aspirants who picked their nomination forms. They include Honourable Akeem Adeyemi (Oyo Federal Constituency), Honourable Tajudeen Abisodun Kareem (Atisbo/Saki East/Saki West Federal Constituency), Honourable Akin Alabi (Egbeda/Ona Ara Federal Constituency), and Honourable Olamiju Alao-Akala (Ogbomoso South/Ogbomoso North/Orire Federal Constituency).

Speaking with journalists after obtaining his forms, Alli said his ambition to govern Oyo State is driven by a desire to deliver effective governance and address developmental gaps at the grassroots level.

He pledged to make government more accessible and people-oriented if elected, stressing that his aspiration is rooted in a commitment to empower communities and improve living standards across the state.

According to him, his political journey and prior experience in governance have prepared him for the task ahead.

Reflecting on his tenure as a local government chairman, Alli noted that he brought governance closer to the people by strengthening institutions, improving infrastructure, and ensuring visible and impactful leadership at the grassroots.

He also highlighted his service as Secretary to the State Government, where he said he worked behind the scenes to ensure policies were effectively implemented and translated into tangible benefits for citizens.

“As Chief of Staff to former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, I was at the centre of governance, ensuring coordination and effective administration,” he said.

Alli added that, as the current senator representing Oyo South, he has consistently advocated for his constituents through legislation and interventions aimed at improving livelihoods across different sectors.

He expressed confidence in his readiness to lead the state, assuring residents of purposeful leadership and immediate action upon assumption of office if elected in 2027.
