Oyo 2027: Disquiet in Ido/Ibarapa East as Constituents Compare Remi Oseni’s Performance with Predecessors

IBADAN – Fresh political undercurrents are beginning to ripple through the Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency as constituents have started raising critical questions regarding the performance of the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Remi Oseni. Despite entering the political scene with a reputation for private philanthropy and financial muscle, a growing section of the electorate is now evaluating his legislative tenure against the benchmarks set by his predecessors and contemporaries.

Political observers within the constituency note that while Oseni initially gained significant ground in the Ido local government area through the provision of transformers and other immediate infrastructure, his influence in Ibarapa East appears to be waning. Critics argue that the lawmaker, who arrived on the political stage as a “man without failed promises,” is now struggling to shed a burgeoning reputation for unmet expectations as he nears the peak of his current mandate.

A major point of contention among constituents is the shift in focus toward what many describe as “stomach infrastructure” at the expense of sustainable developmental projects. Comparisons are increasingly being drawn between Oseni’s current output and the projects executed by the former lawmaker, Hon. Yemi Taiwo. Residents are reportedly demanding a clear audit of Oseni’s facilitated projects, specifically seeking the number of health centers and schools successfully attracted to the constituency during his time in office.

The scrutiny intensified as locals compared Oseni’s track record with other lawmakers in the state, such as Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide (Agboworin) and Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju (Ibarapa Kan), both of whom have been credited with high-impact capital projects. The consensus among some community leaders in Ibarapa East is that the “stain of failed promises” is becoming a significant political liability for the incumbent.

In Ibarapa East specifically, the political tide appears to be favoring the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a development many attribute to the strategic influence of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin. Sources within the constituency claim that Ogundoyin’s consistent presence and promotion of the PDP’s agenda have successfully filled the leadership vacuum, further isolating Oseni’s influence in the zone.

As the countdown to the next electoral cycle begins, the pressure is mounting on Hon. Remi Oseni to move beyond temporary palliatives and demonstrate a concrete legislative legacy that can withstand the rigorous comparison currently being made by a more discerning and demanding electorate.
