Oyo NUJ Pays Condolence Visit to BCOS Over Death of Bukola Akintade

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has paid a condolence visit to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) following the sudden death of one of its staff, Mrs Bukola Akintade.

The Chairman of the Council, Mr Akeem Abas, led the delegation to sympathise with the management and staff of the corporation over the loss, describing it as painful and shocking to the journalism profession in the state.

Mrs Akintade, a newscaster with BCOS and former Treasurer of the NUJ BCOS Chapel, died on Friday, April 17, 2026.

The NUJ delegation, which included the Secretary, Mr Temidayo Adu; Treasurer, Comrade Moses Morenikeji; Ex-Officio, Comrade Khalid Imran; and executive members of the BCOS Chapel, was received by the Chairman of the corporation, Chief Dotun Olaitan in her office.

During the visit, Mr Abas presented a condolence letter to the management of BCOS and expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of the deceased.

In his remarks, the Oyo NUJ Chairman paid glowing tributes to Mrs Akintade, describing her as a dedicated journalist whose commitment to duty and professionalism left an enduring legacy in the media industry.

Abas noted that the late broadcaster was a voice of truth whose contributions positively impacted society, adding that she would be greatly missed by colleagues and the journalism community.

Responding, the Chairman of BCOS, Chief (Mrs.) Dotun Olaitan, described the death of Mrs Akintade as shocking, noting that she was lively, peace-loving and dutiful, while urging journalists to prioritise their health in order to remain fit for service.

The delegation also visited the Director of News and Current Affairs, Mrs Bunmi Oyedemi, as well as the newsroom staff to commiserate with them and share in their grief over the loss.
