PDP National Convention Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Others for “Anti-Party Activities”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and the party’s former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

Also expelled were the former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN); Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; George Turner; and Hon. Umar Bature.

Their expulsion was ratified at the PDP National Convention on Saturday after a motion moved by the party’s former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George. George said the decision followed what he described as deliberate actions by the affected members aimed at undermining and destabilising the party.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee, Senator Ben Obi, moved a motion for the convention to be declared elective. The motion was seconded by Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN) and approved by delegates.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State also moved a motion for the ratification of state executive committees formed through congresses conducted in line with the PDP constitution and monitored by INEC and security agencies. The motion, seconded by Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, excluded Imo, Abia, Enugu, and Rivers states from the ratification.
The convention further approved the dissolution of the current National Working Committee (NWC) and endorsed amendments to various sections of the party’s constitution.
