The murder of the Fatinoye’s has taking a new twist after the arrest of the prime suspect.
The prime suspect in the gruesome murder of a couple, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye and their Son, Oreoluwa in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has escaped from the police custody.
Impeccable sources revealed that the prime suspect, simply identified as Lekan, escaped from the police custody at Ibara Police Divisional Headquarters, after his arrest on Tuesday.
It was added that the escape of Lekan, who was the driver to the deceased, Mrs Fatinoye, until Friday, remained a top secret within the police hierarchy.
The suspect was said to have been driving Mrs Fatinoye for almost two years and was well known within the community of the Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB, where the deceased worked.
Sources added that Lekan was arrested following an earlier arrest of another suspect with the name Felix who was a house-help, but had been living with the family for several years.
Lekan was said to have been taken into custody at Ibara Police Station when the house-help (Felix), who also escaped assassination by the assailants, identified him as one of the killers at the scene.
The source further revealed that at the point of taking statement from Lekan, he slumped and was almost lifeless, not known to the police that it was only a pretense and a ploy to escape the lawful custody.
Lekan was said to have been quickly rushed to a police clinic at Zone II not far from the Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Iwe-Iroyin, in order to be revived so as to help the police in its investigation.
Lekan, the Suspect and Driver to Late Mrs Fatinoye
After being given medical attention, Lekan was said to have woken up, requested to ease himself and after being allowed by the police, escaped through the front of the Ogun Deputy Governor’s Lodge and scaled fences to the house of the late Head of Interim Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan.
Lekan, who was dressed in a robe (Jalabia) as at the time of the escape was said to have been chased by the police officers on duty, shooting sporadically either to get him dead or alive but disappeared into the thin air at a point leaving the police officers confused.
All efforts to get the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, to confirm the claims proved unsuccessful and he was yet to respond to the messages sent to him as at the time of filling this report.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched by the public instead of the police. The online poster that presently littered the social media platforms is with the inscription ” WANTED” with Lekan’s picture boldly on it.
Some curious person in the society are querying the Ogun State police for not officially declaring Lekan wanted and online banner does not have the police logo on it to really ascertain that it’s from the Police Force
