Revisiting the Truth: A Response to Hammed Muritala’s Misleading Claims on Senator Alli

By Babatunde Olayiwola

Our attention has been drawn to a publication authored by one Hammed Muritala, replete with distortions, unsubstantiated claims and deliberate mischief targeted at Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Alli.

Ordinarily, such a poorly constructed piece would not deserve a response, but for the sake of public clarity and respect for truth, we find it necessary to set the record straight.

First, the attempt to describe the well-attended governorship declaration of Senator Alli as a “comedy” is both laughable and dishonest. The event witnessed a massive turnout of party faithful, stakeholders, youths, women groups, and leaders across Oyo State, reflecting the widespread acceptance and credibility Senator Alli enjoys.

It is important to state that political gatherings are not measured by the noise of detractors but by the quality and conviction of those in attendance.

On the issue of the remarks credited to Fuji maestro, Saheed Osupa, it must be clearly stated that he spoke in his personal capacity as an entertainer and supporter, as is common in political gatherings across Nigeria.

Attempting to twist his comments into an institutional endorsement by the Olubadan or the revered Ibadan traditional council is not only mischievous but also disrespectful to the intelligence of the public. Senator Alli holds the Olubadan stool in the highest regard and would never drag the revered institution into partisan politics.

For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has never claimed, directly or indirectly, that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, or any member of the Olubadan-in-Council has endorsed his ambition. He remains a firm believer in the neutrality and dignity of traditional institutions and has consistently conducted his political activities with utmost respect for constituted authorities.

The desperate attempt to malign Senator Alli’s legislative record also falls flat in the face of verifiable facts. As a distinguished Senator, he has sponsored and supported impactful bills, facilitated developmental projects, empowered constituents and maintained strong grassroots engagement across Oyo South.

His recognition as Legislator of the Year was based on clear and objective parameters, not the pedestrian sentiments expressed by the writer. Awards earned through merit cannot be diminished by bitterness or political bias.

It is equally important to caution against the growing trend of dragging respected personalities and institutions into needless controversy for cheap political gains.

The name-calling and derogatory language directed at individuals, including respected entertainers and leaders, reflect poorly on the author and do not align with the values of decency expected in public discourse.

Senator Alli’s aspiration is driven by a genuine desire to serve and build on the progress of Oyo State through inclusive governance, strategic development and people-oriented policies.

His track record, accessibility, and commitment to the welfare of his constituents remain undeniable and widely acknowledged.

We therefore urge the public, party members, and stakeholders to disregard the said publication, as it clearly lacks substance, objectivity and credibility.
Political competition should be based on ideas, vision and performance, not falsehoods, insults and desperation.

In conclusion, Senator Sharafadeen Alli remains focused, undeterred, and committed to engaging the people of Oyo State with respect, integrity and a clear roadmap for a better future.

No amount of sponsored propaganda can diminish the growing support and confidence he continues to enjoy among the good people of the state.
