Rotary District 9126 Hosts National Blood Donor Day, Hepatitis B Eradication Screening in Ibadan
Rotary District 9126’s Zone 1 Committee on Special Blood Donation successfully held the National Blood Donor Day at the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), located at the South West Zonal Centre, opposite KS Motel, Total Garden in Ibadan.
The event, themed, “Unity in Donation: Diversity in Life,” attracted a large crowd and underscored the critical importance of voluntary blood donation in saving lives.
The day was divided into two key segments. The first focused on blood donation, featuring engaging activities that not only encouraged participation but also promoted overall public health.
Attendees had opportunities for hepatitis screening and vaccination, services that highlighted the event’s health-oriented mission.
Lukman Onasanya, the Zonal Coordinator for the Hepatitis B Eradication Screening Committee, emphasised the significance of the screening initiative, stating, “Our goal is to eradicate Hepatitis B in our community. Events like this allow us to reach more people and educate them about the importance of early detection and prevention.”
In addition to the screenings, informative health talks provided participants with insights into the health benefits of blood donation and preventive care.
The atmosphere was festive, with live music and various donor incentives, making the experience enjoyable for everyone involved.
Organised by the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) and sponsored by the District 9126 Zone 1 Special Committee on Hepatitis and the District 9126 Zone 1 Special Committee on Blood Donation, this event served as a testament to Rotary’s commitment to addressing health challenges within the community.
Present at the flag off were the District Governor, Rotn Kayode Olowolagba, District secretary Rotn Kareem Oderinu, the District Treasurer Rotn. Rasaq Saliu and District Governor Nominee Rotn Olaniyi Okin, also present at the program are District & Zonal Chair of the Special Committee on Blood Donation, Rotn Funmi Ogunbanwo and Rotn Kemi Akinpelu respectively
The turnout and enthusiasm shown by participants reflected the club’s dedication to supporting life-saving initiatives.
The event not only raised awareness about the importance of blood donation but also strengthened the bonds of unity and diversity in the fight for better health.
