President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.
The announcement was made on Saturday in Jos, Plateau State, during the celebration of Jonah Jang’s 80th birthday and the launch of his autobiography.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the event, disclosed the appointment while delivering the President’s goodwill message to the former governor.
According to Shettima, the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to bringing competent individuals into government while ensuring broad representation in national leadership.
The announcement was met with applause from guests at the event, held at the Tamarald Event Centre in Jos.
The occasion attracted several high-profile personalities, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, serving and former governors, federal and state government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders and other distinguished guests.

Yakubu Jang’s appointment came as political leaders gathered to honour the former Plateau governor for his decades of public service and contributions to national development.
Jonah Jang, who turned 80, has had a distinguished career spanning both military service and politics. He served in the Nigerian Air Force, held office as a military administrator, governed Plateau State for two consecutive terms and later represented the state in the Senate.
As part of the celebration, the elder statesman also unveiled his autobiography titled Airman to Politics: My Life, which chronicles his journey from military service to becoming one of Plateau State’s most influential political figures.

The appointment of Yakubu Jang is expected to further strengthen the administration’s efforts to draw experienced and qualified professionals from across the country into key positions in government.
