The United States government has introduced a new set of visa restrictions aimed at Nigerians alleged to have played a role in suppressing or violating religious freedom.
In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, December 3, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the policy will apply to individuals who “knowingly direct, authorize, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.”
According to Rubio, the measure is part of Washington’s ongoing commitment to defend human rights globally and hold accountable those who enable or participate in religious persecution.
