The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, has condemned the rising insecurity in some Nigerian tertiary institutions. This comes after the tragic killing of a 200-level student, Mr. Tobiloba, at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
In a statement by NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs. Omolola Alamu, and made available to reporters by the Secretary of the Association, Mrs Eniola Adeaga, the NAWOJ expressed disappointment at the inadequate security measures in place to protect students.
Alamu emphasized that educational institutions should be safe havens for students, not death traps.
She therefore urged both private and public universities to establish special monitoring teams to regularly check on students in their hostels and halls of residence.
NAWOJ Oyo State Chapter extends its condolences to the family of the deceased student and prays that God grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
