Oyo Commissioner Charges Wives Of 33LGA’s Chairmen & Women Leaders On Women Empowerment At Grassroot As Wives Of LG Chairmen Endorse Makinde For 2nd Term

Oyo State commissioner for Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Kafilat Olayiwola, has charged the wives of 33 local government Chairmen at large to assist their husbands reach the people at the grassroots levels in the state.

The State Commissioner made the charge on Friday during the meeting of the wives of Chairmen in the 33Local Governments in Oyo, held at the Conference room of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion.

Olayiwola enjoined all wives of the Caretaker Chairmen in the state to sensitise women at grass root on the need to initiate developmental programmes and projects that will benefit women and the youths.

She admonished them to support their husbands in their bids to uplift their local governments to greater height.

She urged them to extend their hands of fellowship to the wives of the Deputy Chairmen in their various local governments areas for greater achievements.
Similarly, the Part-time Commissioner, Local Government Service Commission,Mrs Christiana Obanike, called on the wives of the Chairmen to organize programme that will benefit the women and children in their localities.

She called them to give peace a chance in their localities,adding that it is only in the atmosphere of peace that development can take place.

Also,speaking,the Permanent secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Christiana Abioye admonished the wives of the Chairmen to be good ambassadors of the present administration in the state.

She urged them to cooperate with their husband in their efforts to take development to the door steps of all and sundry in their localities.

She hinted that the ministry would organize regular workshops, seminars that will assist them in their various local governments.

In her response, the Wife of Egbeda Local Government Chairman, Mrs Sanda noted that the meeting was the first of its kind since the inception of the present administration in the State.

Pledging the support of the all the wives of the local government Chairmen in the State to take dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroot, saying they have all endorsed Makinde’s second term in the office.

She also commended governor Seyi Makinde for appointing their husbands to serve the people in their respective Local government areas.

She maintained that the meeting has enable the wives of the local government chairmen to have more knowledge on issues relating to overall women emancipation in the state.
“This meeting will beam the needed light on the problems encountered by our women and children, especially the girl child in the rural areas.” she said.

The event which is the inaugural meeting has earlier had interactive meeting with the women leaders in all the 33 local government areas and three senatorial women leaders in the zone of Oyo state and host of other party members.
