In a powerful effort to promote academic excellence and dispel the growing notion that “education is a scam,” an alumnus of Abiodun Atiba Memorial Institute, Oyo, Mr. Babatunde Tijani (popularly known as TJ), has awarded N1 million to outstanding graduating students and dedicated staff of the school.

The donation was announced during the school’s 44th valedictory service and prize-giving ceremony, where Tijani, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, rewarded the top students in Science, Arts, and Commerce, along with the overall best graduating student — each receiving N200,000. He also extended the same amount to the school’s teaching staff in appreciation of their contributions to student development.
“In honour of my late father, Chief Abdul-Lateef Eyitayo Tijani, who was vice principal of this institution from 1981 to 1988, I am pleased to donate N200,000 each to the best students in Science, Arts, and Commerce, as well as the overall best graduating student,” Tijani announced through his sister, Ms. Omobola Tijani, who represented him at the event. “I am also gifting N200,000 to the school staff as a token of appreciation for their dedication.”
He encouraged the Class of 2025 to stay focused and purpose-driven as they embark on the next phase of their academic journey. “Remain patriotic, resilient, and curious. Pursue your dreams with courage—the sky is just your starting point,” he advised.
Tijani also paid glowing tribute to his former teachers, crediting them for their role in shaping his academic and personal growth.
This latest gesture adds to a long list of Tijani’s contributions to his alma mater, which include multimillion-naira projects such as the renovation of a block of six classrooms, provision of 240 modern desks, installation of a borehole, refurbishment of the school mosque, and the annual sponsorship of “TJ BAB’S House” during inter-house sports competitions.
The school’s principal, Mr. Razak Raheem, in his remarks, praised Tijani’s consistent support. “His impact on this school cannot be overstated. He has been a solid pillar in the growth of our academic environment,” Raheem said, offering prayers for Tijani’s continued success.
The principal also commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for fostering a supportive environment for education and advised the graduating students to steer clear of social vices as they pursue further education.
“Secondary education is just the beginning. Make tertiary education your next goal and avoid destructive behaviours like drug abuse, cybercrime, and other societal ills,” he cautioned. “Parents and guardians, please continue to invest in your children. Support them, encourage them, and above all, pray for them.”
One of the major highlights of the day was the announcement of Memunat Oyetunde as the overall best graduating student. Oyetunde, who also emerged as the best science student, received a total cash prize of N400,000. Faizat Oparemi was awarded N200,000 as the best student in the Commercial class, while Jewel Olaoba, the top Arts student, also went home with N200,000.
In her acceptance speech, Oyetunde expressed deep appreciation for the recognition. “This award means so much to me. It is a great motivation to strive harder and aim for greater heights,” she said.
