Spokesperson Should Not Abuse Or Be Foul-mouthed – Bishop Kukah

The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese of the Catholic Church, Matthew Kukah, on Friday said spokespersons are just appointees and have nothing to do to with signing of the peace accord, adding that being a spokesperson does not give you the right to abuse or be foul-mouthed.

In the interview on Arise TV monitored by our correspondent, he said, “Everybody is my Friend, I am a friend to Satan. I am a friend to sinners, my pastoral boundaries are limitless.

“In Nigeria, the problem is that we set up a committee for every problem. We do not need to include the signing of the peace accord to include spokesperson, because they are what they are; they are just appointees.

He added, “Peace accord is signed by people who are participating in a process.

“Being a spokesperson does not give you the right to abuse and these people are behaving as if they have received licenses to be foul mouthed, to speak disrespectfully to people.

“When you are choosing a spokesperson, that is actually your messenger and there is a way in which political actors must take full responsibility fairly and squarely for the nature of the kind of messenger they send to deliver their messages because the way and manner this spokesman conduct themselves put alot of people off which is also costing you more.

“And in my view they have nothing to do with the signing of the peace accord but everything to do with keeping with the boundaries of decency.”
