Makinde seeks expansion of NAF footprint in Oyo

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has called for the expansion of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) presence in the state, emphasising the importance of strengthening partnerships to enhance security and foster development.

He made the appeal, while hosting the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of the Logistics Command of the NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kolade Ademuwagun, who was on a courtesy visit to him at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

In his remarks, Governor Makinde highlighted the pivotal role the Air Force plays in ensuring national security.

He expressed gratitude for the NAF’s support and collaboration since his administration took office in 2019, affirming that his government is committed to maintaining a strong partnership with the military agency to ensure the safety of Oyo State residents.

The governor specifically thanked the NAF for assigning three aviation experts to assist in upgrading the Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan to an international standard.

He underscored the significance of a secure environment for the state’s growth and pledged to work closely with military agencies to achieve this goal.

“On your new assignment, we pray that it will be an impactful tenure of service,” expressing appreciation on behalf of the people of the state.

The governor also addressed the anticipated establishment of a functional Air Force Base in Ajia, noting that compensation for displaced residents has been handled.

He acknowledged that while the promised compensation had been disbursed, inflation has affected its value, expressing his administration’s readiness to provide additional support to expedite the project’s completion.

Recognising the challenges faced by the Air Force, particularly in adhering to international aviation standards amidst economic pressures, Governor Makinde encouraged the NAF, stating, “Tough times do not last, but tough people do,” while expressing optimism for overcoming the current challenges facing the country.

The governor, however, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the expansion of the NAF’s footprint in Oyo State, stating, “We are eager to see the growth of the Nigerian Air Force presence in Oyo State.”

Earlier in his address, Air Vice Marshal Ademuwagun, commended Governor Makinde for his dedication to peace and security in the state.

He acknowledged the governor’s efforts to foster a robust relationship with the NAF and expressed the Air Force’s commitment to continue supporting the state government’s initiatives.
