Minister of State for Youth Development Promotes SAED, Pledges Start-Up Capital for Top Corps Members

The Minister of State for Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, has inspired and encouraged Corps members to participate in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the Federal Government designed to equip young Nigerian graduates with additional value beyond certification.

The Minister who made the remark during a visit to the Oyo State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, emphasised the importance of the SAED programme, stressing that it would enhance the potential of Corps members and contribute to the nation’s growth.

“The youths of this nation are a formidable team, and their resourcefulness will enable them to make the best decisions in any situation,” he stated.

Olawande expressed satisfaction with the comportment, attitude, and discipline displayed by the Corps members,” urging them to take the orientation programme seriously, especially the SAED component, and pledged start-up capital for the top five outstanding Corps members after the training.

He encouraged them to believe in themselves and show commitment to partnering with the government to elevate the nation to new heights.

In celebration of their swearing-in ceremony, the Minister donated 1.5 million naira to all ten platoons and a cow.

He also commended the camp officials for their hard work and dedication.

The Minister further mentioned that the Ministry is working on enabling young people to learn basic entrepreneurial skills online at no cost and providing more start-up benefits. He highlighted the government’s efforts to transform Nigeria into a land of opportunities where young people can realize their dreams.

Regarding the NYSC Scheme, the Minister expressed confidence in its ability to achieve more in the area of youth development.

He noted that the recently passed NYSC Trust Fund bill would play a crucial role in reorganizing the Scheme and ensuring the welfare of Corps members through start-up grants and other benefits allocated for youth development.
