The Oyo State Governor,’Seyi Makinde on Thursday,declared that qualitative healthcare delivery remains a priority of his administration.
The governor who was represented by his deputy,Barr.Bayo
Lawal said this while flagging off measles vaccination exercise in the state.

The exercise which also includes administration of vitamin A supppliment and birth registration campaign in the state, was held at
Oniyanrin Primary Health Care Centre, ‘Nalende, in Ibadan North West Local Government Area.

Makinde explained that the present government in the state rested on four pillars, of which health is one of them.

He maintained that his administration was will continue to ensuring that the people of the state, especially children are free of communicable diseases.

He said: It is when children are happy that parents too are happy, therefore it is important for parents and guardians to bring out their children and wards for measles vaccination.

Makinde, who expressed delight for the programme that promotes health of children said the partnership that the state have with World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children Education Funds(UNICEF) and other support organisations in health care delivery was commendable.

He added that the exercise would also be flagged off across the remaining local government areas in the state.

He enjoined parents to take advantage of the opportunity to immunise their children against measles.

In his opening address, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Bode Ladipo, noted that measles disease had been a problem facing children.

He said that the State and Federal governments and its partners decided to look into the provision of vaccination “to ensure that children under five years are actually well immunised so that there wouldn’t be loss of lives.

“The exercise is symbolic, because it shows the commitment of government, and more importantly it demonstrates to our partners that as a state we are actually in tandem with goals and aspirations for women and children.”

Similarly,the Executive Secretary,Oyo State Primary Health Board Dr.Muideen Olatunji explained the importance of the vaccines to the Children and admonished mothers to cooperate with medical personnel that will be administering vaccines to thier wards.

Speaking on behalf of the WHO, Dr Isiaka Ayodeji, said the organisation would continue to render support for the promotion of health care delivery.

Ayodeji enjoined parents and guardians to maximise the opportunity of the exercise to immunise their children and wards.

In their remarks,two parents, Mrs Adetoun Adeosun and Mrs Sekinat Olayiwola expressed satisfaction with the immunization that was administered to their children to prevent unforeseen health challenges.
This exercise is expected to last for Eight days.
