A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress is exhibiting “obvious panic” despite efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate support within the party.
Momodu made the remarks on Tuesday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, where he argued that recent political developments have unsettled the APC leadership.
According to him, the growing alignment among key opposition figures has heightened tension within the ruling party.
“They (APC) cannot believe that we will have maybe four or five major opposition leaders in the country… you can see the obvious panic in the party,” he said.
The former Peoples Democratic Party chieftain also criticised what he described as a culture of silence within the APC, alleging that members are unable to freely express dissenting views.
“Wherever dictatorship thrives, everybody keeps quiet. The majority of my friends are in APC… they grumble behind the scenes but dare not speak up,” he said, adding that Nigeria needs to be “rescued.”
Momodu further accused the ruling party of interfering in political processes, including alleged attempts to control institutions and restrict opposition activities.
“It’s insane,” he said, alleging that the APC engages in “blocking venues” and “blocking courts.”
Despite these challenges, Momodu maintained that such actions are inadvertently boosting the visibility and support base of the ADC.
