Makinde Charges Corps Members on Nation-Building as NYSC 2026 Batch A Stream II Opens in Oyo

Governor Seyi Makinde has urged members of the 2026 Batch A Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to embrace their service year as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The governor gave the charge on Friday during the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.

Welcoming the corps members to the state, Makinde congratulated them on the successful completion of their academic pursuits, describing their mobilisation as a significant milestone in their lives and a call to serve the nation with dedication, integrity, and patriotism.

He noted that the National Youth Service Corps has remained a vital platform for promoting national unity, integration, and cultural exchange since its establishment, adding that corps members represent the vision of a united and progressive Nigeria.

The governor encouraged the participants to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, stressing the importance of acquiring practical skills that would promote self-reliance and economic empowerment beyond the service year.

Makinde assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and security, noting that Oyo State provides a conducive environment for them to live and serve.

“As you embark on this one-year national assignment, be disciplined, law-abiding, and respectful of the customs and traditions of your host communities,” he said, urging them to be good ambassadors of their families, institutions, and the NYSC scheme.

He also commended the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, camp officials, and other stakeholders for their dedication and professionalism in organising the orientation exercise.

The governor further charged the corps members to serve with sincerity, courage, and optimism, encouraging them to believe in Nigeria and their ability to make a lasting impact.

Makinde formally declared the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation course open, expressing confidence that the participants would contribute positively to the socio-economic development of Oyo State and the country at large.
